Apple welcomed a brand-new product to its online store shelves. Apple has started selling a new 27-inch LG UltraFine 5K Display in its online store after stopping sales of the previous 27-inch model earlier this year.
The previous 27-inch model which was originally designed for use with the 2016 MacBook Pro quietly disappeared from stock and Apple’s online stores in July, and this newly updated model is available in its stead. The new 27-inch UltraFine 5K display 27MD5KL and 24-inch UltraFine 4K Display 24MD4KL offer Thunderbolt 3 and USB Type-C support to connect to the Apple devices and can supply up to 94 watts of power to charge up your laptop or iPad while operating as a connected display. Priced at $1,299.95, the display offers the same 5120 x 2880 resolution as the previous UltraFine 5K Display with 14.7 million pixels and P3 wide color gamut. Other interesting specs are its max 60Hz refresh rate, 14ms GtG response time, 1100:1 contrast ratio, plus the provision of a built-in camera, mic, and stereo 5W speakers.
The primary draw of the display is its 5K resolution, which offers 218 pixels per inch (PPI), with P3 wide color gamut and color accuracy that should satisfy any professional. All of those pixels are paired with 500-nit brightness, offering a brighter, more vivid environment for media work, particularly high-dynamic-range content. The screen gets a fully adjustable stand – one that’s included. The monitor is made especially for use with macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and iOS 12.4, you’ll be able to adjust the display’s settings right from your device. The monitor also features stereo speakers, a camera, and a microphone built-in.
The most notable feature on the new LG UltraFine 5K monitor is its ability to connect with an iPad Pro. A thing to note is that, when connected to an iPad Pro via USB-C, it’s limited to 4K resolution. Apple is developing its own Pro Display XDR with a 6K resolution for release later this year, but its price ($5,000) will be prohibitive to the vast majority of people meaning that Apple is likely to continue to offer the LG displays for some time.
